It seems that in the very near future our teeth will not need fillings, They will be able to regenerate itself by means of a therapy using the low-intensity laser.
The authors of this technique believe that their method has a huge potential, since it can be used not only in dentistry, but in the whole field of regenerative medicine.
Researchers have used low-intensity laser to stimulate stem cells to form tooth dentin, that hard tissue, like bone, from which appears the most part consists of a tooth. The study was done on mice, but also included laboratory tests carried out on human cells.
Scientists have regenerated a whole tooth, Whereas regeneration is a complicated operation enamel. However, the production of dentin already contributes to the removal of the need to provide a root canal, painful intervention consisting of nerve and bacteria removal of a tooth.

American scientists have discovered that exposure of teeth to low intensity laser works on active chemicals, oxygen-containing molecules, activating a cellular protein involved in developmental functions, healing and immunization.
This protein targets present in dental pulp stem cells and causes them to turn into dentin. Stem cells are cells capable of being converted into various types of cells and tissues in the body.
Researchers believe that their method could be used to heal wounds, to regenerate cardiac tissue, to decrease inflammation and to repair bone fractures.
The study was published in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
